Finals time is upon us in the Gippsland Women’s Football Competition.

Since its inception, Boisdale-Briagolong have been the heavyweights of the competition. But now a new contender has emerged in the form of new club Moe-Newborough, who inflicted the Bombers’ first loss in the competition back in early July.

Boisdale-Briagolong will look to show no mercy against a Lindenow South outfit who have struggled for numbers in the latter half of the season. They last met in Round 7 where the Swampies failed to trouble the scorers and the Bombers piled on the goals for a 117 point win. Round 2 was the first time they met and was a similar story, with Lindenow South failing to score while Boisdale-Briagolong ran out 128 point winners. As valiant as Lindenow South will be in their endeavour, it will be hard to see them topple the competition favourites.

Moe-Newborough and Sale share a familiar history as well. Unable to do battle in Round 4 after it was abandoned due to Covid-19 restrictions, the two teams finally met at the end of the season in Round 9. The Allies kept the Pies scoreless and won by 56 points in the one sided affair. As mentioned above, it is hard to see the second best side of the season falter, though stranger tales have been told before.
