MATCH REVIEW – LAKES ENTRANCE V BOISDALE-BRIAGOLONG

Storming back from a score-less first quarter, Boisdale-Briagolong fell short by just four points in controversial circumstances against Lakes Entrance during round 17 of East Gippsland football.

The Seagulls won 10.10 (70) to 10.6 (66), with both teams neck and neck after half-time.

The final shot at goal from Boisdale-Briag’s Cal Egan was apparently ruled a point, putting a dampener on celebrations and condemning the Bombers to fifth on the ladder.

The Bombers’ ruckman Nicoll Sandison was named best in the hard-fought game, setting up plenty of opportunities.

Dylan Bolton led the goalkicking with three, followed by captain Shaun Bates, Jordan Rodda, and Mathew Simmonds on two each.

Jarred McDonnell was named best for Lakes.

MATCH REVIEW – LUCKNOW V ORBOST-SNOWY ROVERS

Lucknow’s strong win against Orbost-Snowy Rovers, 25.18 (168) to 5.1 (31), wasn’t enough to push it into the top four.

The Magpies started strongly with an eight goal opening term. Despite kicking four goals of their own in the first quarter, scoring for Orbost dried up after the first break, with the visitors kicking one goal for the remainder of the game.

Keenan Hynes led the way with eight goals for the Magpies, and Mark McDonald was best for Orbost.

MATCH REVIEW - STRATFORD V PAYNESVILLE

Stratford won by more than 100 points against Paynesville for Nathan French's 100th senior game.

The Swans had no trouble against the young Paynesville outfit, winning 21.21 (147) to 2.1 (13) and potentially the minor premiership.

The Gulls were score-less in the first and fourth quarters, as small forward Jordan Robertson kicked five goals, leading another 11 goal kickers.

Ruckman Lachie Heywood stood out in the wet and slippery conditions, with rain pouring down in the third term.

MATCH REVIEW - WY YUNG V LINDENOW

Wy Yung was no match for a resurgent Lindenow, which won 12.13 (85) to 9.8 (62) to move into fourth spot on the ladder.

The Cats were 14 points down at quarter-time before lifting in the second term, staying just in touch of the Tigers until the fourth, where they kicked five goals to just two points. Wy Yung eventually ran out of legs, with no fit men on the bench in the final term.

Darcy Murray was best for Wy Yung, and Wes Russell kicked three goals. Lindenow's best players and goal kickers were unavailable at time of post.
