MIRBOO NORTH WEATHER FORECAST:

QUALIFYING FINAL MATCH PREVIEW – YALLOURN-YALLOURN NORTH V YINNAR

Two of the MGFL heavyweights will confront each other this weekend with the reward to the winner being a clash with top-of-the-table Trafalgar and a possible shortcut to the last dance.

The proposition of taking part in grand final day won’t be on the radar of either coach with an enormous hurdle or two to overcome first.

The two times these sides have met in the home and away season presented each with very different challenges.

In game one, conditions were fast and reasonably dry and Yinnar were completely overrun after quarter-time with the Bombers winning by 37 points.

In their second clash at Yinnar’s home ground in very muddy, heavy conditions, it was the Magpies who claimed the win by 19 points.

A lot has been made of the Bombers forward line, in particular Dean Macdonald, who deserves the accolades he gets on the back of his 94 goals to date.

Add in Conor Hughes and Keenan Hughes and the underrated Josh Keyhoe and they present an imposing set up.

Many sides have tried to stop the Bombers by stopping Macdonald, or stopping the assists to the key forward, but they have far more options than the obvious.

Even in the back third the Bombers build their attack by spreading the opposition through a change of direction across half back and then rely on speed to find any one of their talented forwards.

Yinnar, on the other hand, seem to be a little more patient forward of centre with plenty of short leads in and out of space.

Their set up is supported by a mix of experience, youth and big bodies in the back half who will be more than capable of making life hard for the Bombers.

BOOLARRA WEATHER FORECAST:

ELIMINATION FINAL MATCH PREVIEW – MIRBOO NORTH V THORPDALE

With their seasons now very much on the line, Mirboo North and Thorpdale are preparing to clash in week one of finals in the Mid Gippsland Football League.

The Tigers were handed a lesson by Yallourn-Yallourn North just a week ago while Thorpdale showed enormous courage to claw their way to a one-point victory over Newborough.

That said, prior to the last game of the home and away season, the reigning premiers had been slowly and methodically putting together a side that was not only winning games of football but improving along the way.

In the two previous meetings it was Thorpdale who were successful in round four by a single point, leaving the Tigers zero and four at the start of the season.

Mirboo North bounced back in the replay to claim a 16-point win.

A side has to win four games in a row to win the premiership from an elimination final – a feat the Tigers accomplished in 2017.

Coach Josh Taylor will need to be leading from the front and Tim Trail will need to make the most of every opportunity up forward.

Trail will also need to be supported by many forwards around him, not only to goal, but to keep the ball inside the forward 50.

The Tiger defenders look good when they chance their arm and run forward to lend support but they need to do it with purpose and confidence that given the risk, the ball won’t be bouncing out too quickly.

Thorpdale have courageously found a way to hang onto fifth position but injured playing-coach Josh Collie headlines a long list of unavailable players.

This game appears to be at the mercy of Mirboo North, but if players come into the game believing that to be the case, they may find themselves in a fight to the very last minute.
