Ellinbank DFL Round 17 preview

MATCH PREVIEW

Buln Buln and Neerim South will duke it out in what should result as a finals spot for the victorious side.

Currently sitting at 5th and 4th respectively – both on 10 wins – with Nyora sitting outside the top 5 only two points behind, a win now is highly important for both finals aspirants.

The Lyrebirds last week put Catani’s season to bed with a solid – albeit inaccurate – win, while the Cats had an easy kill over Nilma Darnum.

The result should reveal where both sides sit in the middle order and if other games play out a certain way, a potential third spot and double chance final beckons.

MATCH PREVIEW

Bragging rights are up for grabs as these 8th and 9th placed sides do battle in the very last game at the Lang Lang Showgrounds.

The Tigers have shown great improvement in the last month and will be buoyed by a batch of key re-signings. They will wear a heritage guernsey in honour of the occassion.

On the other side of the coin, the struggle has been real for Yarragon. They have not won since Round 10, which was against the equally struggling Nilma Darnum.

Both sides will internally see this as a game they should win and rightfully so.

The battle for top spot is on when Longwarry host Ellinbank.

The Bankers got the upper hand back in Round 8 which saw them pinch top spot from the Crows. Longwarry will be out for revenge and seek to reclaim the throne with 2 rounds to go until finals time.

Ellinbank bounced back last week after a shock loss to Neerim South, putting reigning premiers Nyora to the sword. Should the Eagles claim the spoils in this bout, they will go two games clear and stitch up top spot on the ladder.

MATCH PREVIEW

Catani will enter this game as heavy favourites in their clash against Nilma Darnum.

The struggling Bombers have found the going tough this year, with Matt Shorey’s men registering just the one win in Round 5 against Lang Lang. With the home side facing Poowong in the last round, this is likely their best opportunity to register their second win of the year.

The Blues up and down season has now got the best of them and are out of finals contention. Despite that fact, Catani should prove too strong as they travel up to Darnum.

In this clash between traditional rivals, everything is on the line.

Simply put, Nyora must win to stay in touch with finals contention in order to defend their 2018 crown.

For Poowong, a win will secure their spot in the top 5 with a round to play. A loss could see them join the pack of at least another three teams vying for a finals spot.
