Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, Saturday April 4th and Sunday 5th was to mark the first football games being played in Gippsland League, Mid Gippsland FL, North Gippsland FNL and Omeo & District FNL, while Ellinbank & District FL would have seen the commencement of Round 1 and West Gippsland FNC would see Round 2 begin.

In Round 1 of the Gippsland League, we would’ve seen Drouin host Leongatha, Moe face Traralgon, Morwell square off with Bairnsdale and Warragul travel down to Wonthaggi on Saturday. On the Sunday, Sale would’ve of taken on local rivals Maffra in the Battle of the Birds.

Round 1 of the Mid Gippsland Football League would have seen Boolarra face Yinnar, Newborough host Thorpdale, Trafalgar travel to Mirboo North and Morwell East have the bye, while the Grand Final rematch between Yallourn-Yallourn North and Hill End was sure to capture the interest of fans.

The NGFNL opening round fixture consisted of reigning premiers Churchill square off against Cowwarr, Glengarry host Rosedale, Sale City face Gormandale, Heyfield travel to Tyers to play TTU and local rivals Yarram and Woodside battling it out.

The Omeo & District FNL would have kicked off their 2020 season with the Grand Final rematch between Bruthen and Omeo-Benambra, Swan Reach host Lindenow South and Buchan face Swifts Creek.

After what would have been a season opening game in the week prior, the Ellinbank & District FL’s official Round 1 fixture would have begun with Catani and Nilma-Darnum facing off, Yarragon travelling down to Ellinbank, Lang Lang and Buln Buln battling it out, Longwarry hosting Neerim-Neerim South and local rivals Nyora and Poowong closing out the round.

Lastly, the West Gippsland FNC would’ve have seen Round 2 action kick off with Bunyip vs Nar Nar Goon, Phillip Island vs Garfield, Inverloch-Kongwak vs Dalyston, Korumburra-Bena vs Kilcunda-Bass, Tooradin-Dalmore vs Cora Lynn and Warragul Industrials vs Koo Wee Rup.
