MATCH PREVIEW

The undefeated Churchill this week battle it out with a much improved Cowwarr in the inaugural Blue Ball game, the match aiming to raise awareness of prostate cancer. Under the guidance of new coach Jeremy Jones, who was said to be filthy after last weeks’ narrow loss to TTU, the Saints have improved markedly in season 2019. After four rounds they have already matched last years’ output in terms of wins including victory over reigning premier Yarram. Pat Tainsh has been a stand out for The Warr along with Shane Morgan who is averaging more than five goals a game. Churchill, whilst fielding an incredibly young side of late, remain undefeated and this week should get back first choice on-ballers Nathan McRae and Ben Skinner, whose 16 year old replacement last week, Blake Whykes, marked his first senior appearance with both a win and a goal.

HEYFIELD WEATHER FORECAST:

MATCH PREVIEW

After notching their second win under new coach Ric Galea last week Heyfield will fancy their chances of making it three from five when they take on Woodside Saturday. Heyfield held Gormy to just a solitary major in last week’s win and whilst their 46 scoring shots would have impressed supporters it is the defensive effort that will have pleased Galea the most. Woodside will look to Ryan Foat and Tom Crosby to again lead the way with the ruck duo dominant despite defeat last week. Even with their influence it is hard to see the Wildcats getting over the Roos.

SALE WEATHER FORECAST:

MATCH PREVIEW

Last placed Gormandale have conceded a minimum of 40 scoring shots per game this season. Things get no easier for the Tigers this week when they take on top of the ladder Sale City. City have dined out on this fixture in recent years accruing over 500 “points for” with an average winning margin of 21 goals in their last three trips to Gormandale. If Tigers coach Jared Zuehkle, whose side has managed just three goals in their last two games, can keep the margin under that average he will have done incredibly well. Sadly it seems highly unlikely Jaryd Gilroy’s 150th senior match for Gormy will result in victory.

TYERS WEATHER FORECAST:

MATCH PREVIEW

After a season opening loss to Churchill Tyers have strung together three wins on the trot all be it, arguably, against lesser opposition than what awaits them Saturday afternoon. Rosedale have had a tougher draw and sit a game behind the third placed Bombers in fifth place but with a far superior percentage courtesy of some big wins to open their season. After kicking 36 gaols across their first two matches the Blues have been held to just nine and seven majors in their last two losing efforts. Tyers too have had some trouble kicking a big score with their forward line appearing to have a “work in progress” feel to it with several personnel and structural changes across the opening rounds.

Tyers will head into this critical clash closing in on a full strength list with coach Michael Duncan noting he was likely to have both Scott Zuekle and Jye Neilson available for selection this week. With no injuries to report from last week it leaves Duncan and the Bomber brains trust in the enviable position of having to leave players out of a winning side.

Duncan was full of respect for Rosedale’s midfield jet Dale Fleming and forward cum ruckman Frazar Brouns but also lauded his own on engine room saving particular praise for the likes of Ricky Cochrane, Billy Morrison and Jake Albanese who he said were all in terrific form. Adding to his array of midfield weapons is former Collingwood top up player Jordon Collopy who looks to be finding his feet at his new club having been adjudged best afield in last week’s win defeat of Cowwarr.

Winning the battle through the middle of the ground will be crucial in putting the brakes on the talented Rosedale forward line. Duncan has a great deal of respect for Rosedale’s Brandon McDonald declaring he was “one of the better forwards in the competition and a big key for them.” Rosedale coach Sam Bristow kept his cards close to his chest when contacted this week but did say nothing short of a four quarter effort would get his team the win they are after.

YARRAM WEATHER FORECAST:

MATCH PREVIEW

Yarram returned to the winners circle last week after back to back home losses while their opponent this week, Glengarry, were soundly beaten by a rampant Sale City. That trend looks set to continue with Yarram likely to be too strong across the park for the younger Magpie outfit. Griffin Underwood returned for the Demons in impressive fashion slotting two majors to support the “Vardy Party” with brothers Dan and Ben kicking seven between them. That front half potency will surely prove too much for the Magpies defence to stop.
