Omeo Benambra has overcome a 38-point first quarter deficit to book its Omeo District senior grand final spot.
The Ranges began woefully against Buchan in Saturday’s prelim final at Buchan, conceding six of the first seven goals as the Cavemen ran riot.
Omeo pegged the margin back to 18 at half time on the back of some Ross Ansaldi brilliance before dominating the third term, pouncing on a tired and unaccountable Buchan side. Six goals to a single behind put the Ranges ahead by 20 at the final break before three early final term goals sealed the deal for the minor premier, winning by 33 points – a 71-point turnaround. The Ranges did as they pleased in the second half, moving the ball cleanly, defending staunchly and finding space in what was a packed forward 50m in the first half.
While Buchan exploded out of the blocks and was outstanding defensively, the longer the game went, it was obvious the Cavemen’s fitness did not stack up.
The Ranges will meet their semi final conquerer, reigning back-to-back premier, Bruthen, in this Saturday’s grand final at Lindenow South.
