Wy Yung (1st) vs Orbost Snowy Rovers (7th) – click here for selected sides

The final round of the season shapes to be an interesting one, despite what appears to be some one-sided games on face value and the fact that the top 4 is now set.
While there are no guarantees this season, Boisdale-Briagolong’s drop off in form towards the end of the season suggests Lucknow should have their measure. However, the Bombers may have one last effort in them, while the Magpies will be looking to consolidate their finals campaign with a shot at second spot on the ladder – should Stratford falter against Lakes Entrance.
With the Swans travelling East to take on Lakes, the home side will be looking to upset the Stratty boys who will be favourites to secure the 4 points and lock away a top two spot and a qualifying final appearance.
Paynesville – who threatened early in the season to be present in at the pointy end of the season – will also look to finish their season on a high note when they take on a patchy Lindenow outfit. However, the Cats lean run of wins recently has been rectified with their last two games finishing victorious and should account for the home side. On the other side of the coin, the Gulls will look to recapture their early season form one last time for 2022.
Finally, a first vs seventh bout never looked so enticing as it will when Wy Yung take on Orbost Snowy Rovers. The Bridge will be looking to cap off their late season form with a win over the ladder leaders. The Tigers – who comfortably accounted for OSR in their last battle – will however go into this game with confidence having only lost once since Round 7.

Lindenow South vs Swifts Creek @ Buchan Oval, seniors start 2pm

With a week off to rest some sore bodies, the winner earns a spot in the big dance and the loser meets Swan Reach next week in the Preliminary Final. That is the nuts and bolts of it.

However, both of these sides will be out to prove their credentials during the last two Covid interrupted years. Both of these sides fancied their chances at premiership glory last year which was ultimately put to bed before a champion could be announced and will want to capitalize on their strong squads while they still have them all together.

Swifts Creek have regained some of their early season form after some patchy performances midway through the season. The Demons have won their last three games and five of their last six. Ironically, their last loss is against the Swampies. The Creek will look to Jamie Barton to spearhead their attack in front of goal and the influence of the Hacks will be important, with Dylan marshaling the troops in defence while Jesse and Beau patrol the midfield.

For the Swampies, Max Solomon and Neil Rawlings make a potent forward duo, combining for 93 goals this season. The forward line firepower doesn’t end there either, with Samual Howden and Seth Smith regularly contributing to their scoreboard. Nathan Pollard is also one who can change the trend of a game and will have great support from the likes of Daniel Howe and Will O’Keefe in the midfield.

The last time these two sides met were in Round 12 on July 9th, where Lindenow South were victorious by five points in a game that could of gone either way. Prior to that, the Swampies have had the Demons’ measure on both occasions to the tune of 23 points in Round 2 and 11 points in Round 7. Read into that what you will, but that gap seems to be tightening with each game they play.

Will the minor premiers book a trip straight into the Grand Final? Or will they be forced to take the long way around?
