Warragul Drouin Gazette: Dusties face Stars in West Gippsland

OUR TWO CENTS

Cora Lynn are starting to get a rhythm that other clubs will be envious of and the club that needs to be concerned this weekend is Phillip Island. While the Bulldogs will be the favourites going in, the Cobras are showing signs that a win on the road is on the cards.
While a lot of pundits will have written off the Warragul Industrials season already, a loss to Garfield will certainly put a nail in their finals aspirations coffin. Whether the news of coach Harmit Singh’s departure at season’s end will affect their motivation remains to be seen, while the Stars seem to be improving almost weekly this season.
Dalyston will be seeking out their second top 6 scalp when they take on the evergreen Tooradin Dalmore. The Pies’s feather in their cap was their win against Cora Lynn this year. But in order to add to that, they’ll need to get past a talented and well drilled Seagulls outfit.
Ladder leader Inverloch Kongwak’s undefeated season will be expected to continue against the struggling Bunyip side. While the Doggies have shown signs that its not all doom and gloom for them, it’s hard to see them get past the Sea Eagles.
Koo Wee Rup will be eyeing off their first win since Round 1 when they travel to play Korumburra Bena at the Showgrounds. The Giants will equally be as confident in securing their second lot of four points, with the outcome likely a measuring stick of where either side is at right now.
With the hoodoo off Nar Nar Goon’s back now after winning the last two, they will want to account for the improving Kilcunda Bass side who will consider themselves a finals smokey. In fact, a win to the Panthers will see them leap frog Nar Nar Goon into the top 6, meaning it will be an important game for both sides.

Warragul Drouin Gazette: Eagles need response against Panthers

OUR TWO CENTS

The bottle neck for fifth spot seems to have dropped away, with Poowong emerging as the prime candidate. Rod Gundrill’s men have won their last three (albeit against sides below them) and will want to maintain the winning feeling against a Catani side that upset Nyora last week.
Lang Lang had one of the biggest upsets of the region last week when they got over the line against Ellinbank in a low scoring affair. The Tigers’ season is hanging on by a thread and they must win against Longwarry who find themselves in exactly the same position.
Yarragon will be on their guard against an Ellinbank side looking to make amends that dropped a game they were expected to win last week. The Panthers lost Liam Smith Butterworth after his concussion forced their game against Neerim South to be abandoned, but the silver linings from that will be the players may be fresher and they will secure two points for a draw in a game they would of lost. The big question is, was Ellinbank’s loss last week an anomaly? Or can Yarragon expose a slump in form?
Nilma Darnum put in a good show against Poowong last week, but will be big underdogs against a highly talented Neerim South outfit.
Nyora’s momentum came to a grinding halt last week when they got blitzed after quarter time by Catani. Whether it was a case of old habits die hard or keeping Scott Pugh quiet, the Saints will have to bring their A-game against first placed Buln Buln who have beaten all that have come before them

Bairnsdale Advertiser: Available via subscription only

OUR TWO CENTS:

It’s now or never for Bairnsdale as they host a vunerable Warragul. The Redlegs had a promising start to the season but have since dropped off the pace. If they drop this one, it may just shatter their confidence enough to write off their season.
Wonthaggi will be riding a wave of euphoria after smashing Traralgon last week, but will be wary of a Morwell side that can throw up anything on their day.
Traralgon will be looking to bounce back after a thrashing at the hands of the Power, while Sale will be hoping to put a bit more gap between themselves and the other sides nipping at their heels.
Drouin’s first win of the year will be some sort of accomplishment if it comes against premiership favourite Leongatha this week.
If Moe are a serious contender, they’ll account for the travelling Maffra side who have a had a disappointing first half of the season.

Warragul Drouin Gazette: Blues chase five straight wins at Stony Creek

OUR TWO CENTS:

Fish Creek will be hoping their current form carries over to their road trip against Yinnar. The Magpies are looking ominous again having won every game since their first and only loss in Round 1. They will also be fresh off the bye last week. The Kangaroos have won their last three after getting trounced by MDU in Round 4.
Boolarra will be desperate to add to their wins ledger when they face an indifferent Mirboo North this weekend. The Demons haven’t won since Round 1 and before last week, their average losing margin was 17 points. In the last few weeks the Tigers have lost by 50 & 123 points respectively.
Thorpdale will dare to dream and attempt their fifth win in a row against Stony Creek at the racecourse. The Lions were impressive in their loss against the ladder leaders last week, but the Blues have been firing under Jason Winderlich, exceeded most people’s expectations externally.
Tarwin and Hill End’s premiership windows both appear to be closed at the moment, despite both sides playing finals last year. However, the Sharks have been able to muster a few wins this season and will go in as favourites.
Toora will go in as underdogs when they host MDU, who have impressed many with their improvement this season. The Demons have shown they can match it with the best this so far, while the Magpies haven’t really looked like beating anyone outside of their only win against Hill End. Hopefully the old Alberton League foes can put on a good show.
