MATCH REVIEW

Round 13 proved unlucky for Hill End as they were bulldozed by a more powerful YYN team in the match of the round. After an even first half where both teams were active it turned pear-shaped for Hill End who apparently stopped in their tracks after half time. Both teams struggled to score goals up to half time and it was an arm wrestle, the Bombers leading by only three points. After the break YYN scored two quick goals which signalled which way the match was turning. Keenan Hughes who had been well held up to half time cut loose in the third scoring three goals which turned the game on its head. YYN booted more goals in this term that the first two quarters. Hill End couldn’t find the goals and good play was often unrewarded as they turned over possession. Hill End lacked fire power up front although Chase Saunders managed a couple of goals. Even dependable backliner Todd Dobson wandered down and scored a goal for the Bombers in what became one way traffic and by three-quarter time the Bombers were well in charge. Jeremy Rees and Daniel Potts were having a good battle in the ruck with the honours about even although YYN were quicker around the ball. The final term was heartbreak for the Hillmen as they scored three goals but leaked six to the opposition as YYN ran away to remain undefeated so far. A situation that doesn’t look like changing unless an opposition team can blanket the effective forwards that keep the Bombers ahead. The final score was YYN 17-8 to Hill End’s 10-6, Keenan Hughes finished with three although it could have been higher and the rest were shared by 10 other players. Hill End had a picket fence with seven goal kickers. Todd Dobson, Elliot De Carli, Luke Webber and Jai Massese were extremely good for the Bombers while Hill End would have been devastated with their performance although Luke Mulqueen, Aaron Fawcett, Rob Fiddelears and Sven Batten all tried hard.

MATCH REVIEW

Yinnar produced a big one against Newborough and usually they struggle against the Bulldogs although the margin was similar as in their first match up this season. The Magpies got ahead early and their 5-1 first quarter was a stepping stone to a much larger total, Matt Coutts was big up forward and a further four goals brings him closer the Keenan Hughes for goal kicking honours. Brad McBride got amongst the goals with three for Yinnar. Newborough’s Joel Mitchell was consistent again with a further three goals but there were too few players getting the ball to him. He is probably one of the best forwards in the league if given the ball. Daniel Campbell, Jacob Carnes, Michael Burge and Emerson Hicks got the accolades for Yinnar as they ran out winners 16-9 to 6-5.

MATCH REVIEW

In another one sided effort Trafalgar showed some spirit with a comfortable win over Boolarra, it was expected that Boolarra would have been competitive but were easily brushed aside by the pulsating Bloods. A 3-2 to 0-3 first quarter didn’t show what was coming but after the first pep talk Trafalgar got their act going, they shut down Boolarra restricting the Demons to nil over the next two quarters. The three quarter time scoreboard showing Trafalgar 8-7 to 0-3. Tyson Leys was a big player for Trafalgar driving the Bloods further ahead in the last term, Jace Butler was an effective player With Ryan Farmer and Conner Noonan in good support with good field play. Trafalgar allowed some joy to Boolarra letting the Demons score their only goal for the game in the last quarter but by then Trafalgar were well ahead to finish 12-8 to 1-4. Trafalgar shared their goals around with 2/3rds of the team getting in the scorebook. Ken Towt, Chris Riseley Jnr, Mark Twomey and Dan Wilson were best for Boolarra.

MATCH REVIEW

Mirboo North won the second leg of the Bright/St Ellen Trophy with a huge win over Thorpdale, the Tigers beating their neighbours 17-16 to 3-4 which was flattering to the Tigers but not so good for the Blues. Thorpdale have re-elected coach Ray Pickering for next year and he must be asking himself how he can lift Thorpdale for the rest of the season and into next year. Mirboo North didn’t have many problems in beating Thorpdale, a 5-1 to 1-1 first quarter setting up a good win. Thorpdale were held to a handful of points after quarter time and even failed to score in the third. Mirboo North would be happy with their game and with a relatively easy game next week (Boolarra) they will be confident coming into final’s calculation.
