Jared Risol has won his first MGFL Best & Fairest award, the Elder-Berwick Medal, at the league’s awards night on Monday September 3rd with 26 votes.

It was a tight finish in the end as he won by two votes over Trafalgar’s Tyson Leys who finished the count with 24 votes, while Ed Greene from Thorpdale finished third with 16 votes.

It capped off a bumper night for Newborough, with Simon Janiw winning the reserves best & fairest award as well as C & D Grade netball.

MGFL 2018 TEAM OF THE YEAR

The MGFL team of the year was also announced on the same night. Nine of the ten clubs had representation this year, with Boolarra being the only team without a representative. Yallourn-Yallourn North had the best representation with five players named. Yinnar had four players named, while Mirboo North and Morwell East had three players named. Yinnar’s Jamie Aitken was named captain of the side, with Trafalgar coach Clint Einsiedel named coach of the year.
