2ND SEMI FINAL
ELLINBANK v LONGWARRY
Where is it being played?: Poowong Rec Reserve
What time is the seniors game scheduled to start?: 2:10pm, Saturday August 31st
They’ve the EDFL’s two best sides all year, and finally they face off in week two of the finals.
It is a circumstance that the Crows only just managed to accomplish, having to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat last week against a spirited Poowong outfit.
Both these sides have played off in a few close matches in general this season, including an encounter against each other in Round 17 which saw the slimmest of margins go the way of the Eagles in a match which saw both sides score 21 points combined tarnished by horrible weather.
Prior to Round 17, these two sides met in Round 8 in another tight clash. It also saw Ellinbank sing their song with gusto after the final siren, winning by 13 points.
Coming in fresh with a week off, pundits will argue whether the break will help of hinder the minor premiers. Only time will tell when we see the result on Saturday.
1ST SEMI FINAL
POOWONG v NEERIM-NEERIM SOUTH
Where is it being played?: Ellinbank Rec Reserve
What time is the seniors game scheduled to start?: 2:10pm, Sunday September 1st
These two sides are coming off two different results from last week.
Neerim South knocked off the reigining premiers Nyora fairly comfortably in the end, while Poowong will be ruing the missed chance to play against the Eagles in the 2nd Semi Final, unable to keep Longwarry at bay last week in a heavily wind affected game.
The Cats have been going about their business under the radar. They have won their last 5 games – in fact, their last loss came at the hands of Poowong in Round 14 which saw the match finish a 3-point margin going the way of the Magpies. Since that time, Ellinbank has been one of the scalps Neerim South have claimed in their winning streak.
Poowong’s form had also been good up until last week, with their last loss coming in Round 13 against the minor premiers.
Apart from Round 14, these two sides met in Round 5, which saw Poowong come away 6-point winners. If previous results are anything to go by, we are in for a close one on Sunday.
