With six rounds to go in the regular season, the top four spots appear to belong to the Jets, Cougars, Bombers and Demons. However, the battle for fifth is seemingly up for grabs and there are a few games that can potentially shape the way the final five finishes.
Woodside’s recent drop off in form will raise the hopes of the Rosedale faithful, who are currently clinging on to a chance of a fifth spot finish. Both sides will understand this is a must win game and a loss at this time of the season could make or break their chances.
Sale City hosting Heyfield shapes as the other intriguing battle of the weekend. The Roos have been coming home with a wet sail and will have the Bulldogs in their sights. City, whose form has been indifferent for the majority of the season, will also want to lock away the 4 points to ensure there finals chances remain at capacity.
TTU will be expected to take the honours against Glengarry, however the Magpies have shown great improvement in the last 2-3 weeks and the Bombers will need to be on their game to make sure they hold off their less fancied opponents.
Yarram travels up to George Bates Reserve to take on the irrepressible Yallourn-Yallourn North in a bout that could see the Demons lose their third in a row should they not be up to the task. Yarram’s last win was against Cowwarr, but their most recent losses against TTU and Churchill suggest that they have dropped off the pace with the league’s leading teams. They will be out to redeem themselves against a Jets outfit that will go in confident retaining top spot on the ladder.
With all due respect, Gormandale will hope to be as competitive as possible against Churchill who will likely be looking for a percentage boosting win against the Tigers. The Cougars have put a few teams to the sword this year and while Gormandale have shown they can put up a respectable score with the right side in, they have also shown they struggle when they are not at full strength.

It will be now or never for a plucky Boisdale-Briagolong side who will be looking to take full advantage of a down-on-their-luck Paynesville outfit. The Gulls have dropped from finals contender to the bottom half of the ladder in the last month, while the Bombers form suggests the can put a few nerves in opposition camps. While the red & black realistically will need to win every game from here to sneak into the top four, Paynesville will be hoping to snag a win and get their season back on track.
Lakes Entrance will host the dominant Wy Yung in a game the Seagulls need to win to stay in touch with the top four. Though the Tigers have taken care of everyone before them, with just the one unexpected blemish to their record in Round 7. Wy Yung sit pretty four games clear at the top of the ladder, while Lakes sit a win plus percentage outside of the top four.
The match of the round goes to Lindenow vs Lucknow. The Cats were shown up by the ladder leaders last week, registering only one goal for the game. Their downward slide in the last 3-4 weeks has helped for a bottle neck from second to fifth on the ladder and will be looking to consolidate their form with a win on Saturday. Should the Magpies win, they can leapfrog the Cats clear in third.
Stratford will look to sew up 2nd spot on the ladder when they host a determined Orbost-Snowy side. The Rovers have challenged most sides in the latter half of this season without reward for effort, though Swans seem to have hit their stride at the right time of the year.

The season has recently been blown wide open, with the recent defeat of Swan Reach over ladder leaders Lindenow South. For the first time in years the fourth spot on the ODFNL ladder is not making up the numbers, which each finals contender all genuine chances for the flag.
Swan Reach will be full of confidence when they travel up the mountain to meet Omeo-Benambra. The Swans are up and about, while the Alpine Ranges may better utilise their home ground advantage to help them retain second spot on the ladder.
With a week to figure out what went wrong for them, Lindenow South will be looking to get back on the winners list against Swifts Creek. While the Demons had a strong start to the season and winning their last two games, these were against the bottom two sides. Prior to this, they had lost their last three games. The will have to recapture their early season form to make sure they are well equipped enough against a well drilled Swampies side
