Warragul Drouin Gazette: Dusties game has serious ladder ramifications

OUR TWO CENTS:

Bunyip’s search for their first four points of the year will be an arduous task against a Nar Nar Goon outfit keen to rejoin the contenders of the competition after a lean start to the season.
Dalyston’s quality will be tested when they come up against a seasoned Phillip Island outfit.
Garfield will have to star in order to get over the top of the formidable Tooradin Dalmore.
Killy Bass will look to strengthen any finals aspirations they have in their clash against a young Korumburra Bena side.
Koo Wee Rup will have to turn around their recent form if they have any chance against the first placed Inverloch Kongwak.
Cora Lynn should go into their clash against Warragul Industrials as favourites, as the Cobras are now starting to hit their stride. The Dusties have had a false start to their season with no luck on the injury front, but will be keen to keep their credentials high coming into the middle of the season.

OUR TWO CENTS:

Traralgon vs Wonthaggi firms as the match of the Round as the Power will look to further the log jam at the top of the ladder.
An injury riddled Warragul will hope to be able to fight off a Sale outfit determined to keep their top five spot.
Morwell vs Bairnsdale sets up to be a cracking contest, with both sides wanting to win to stay with the finals contenders.
Maffra may have had a big win last week, but they will need to be on their guard against a Leongatha side that may be on the rebound after their first loss in a few years.
Drouin, who are yet to register a win after coming so close a few times, will need to be at their best if they are to collect their first victory against a Moe side who broke Leongatha’s winning streak. Billy Gowers – who was attributed as a big reason for the Lions’ win – has been named to play his second game for Moe.

Latrobe Valley Express: N/A

OUR TWO CENTS:

Thorpdale has it’s biggest chance yet to catapult themselves into genuine contenders with a potential 4th win in a row against the struggling Toora.
Fish Creek will look to consolidate their top four spot with a win against Boolarra, who had a promising start to the season but have failed to kick on.
Hill End’s poor start to the season will get no reprieve as they host a Foster side that trounced their Tigers’ namesake last week.
Meeniyan Dumbalk United will seek to strike while the iron is hot against Morwell East who surprisingly dropped last week’s game to Thorpdale.
An indifferent Mirboo North will be looking to make amends against Tarwin who have had had an equally disappointing start to the season.
Coming fresh off a bye, Stony Creek will be looking for an upset against ladder leaders Newborough.

Gippsland Times:

OUR TWO CENTS:

With YYN in unfamiliar territory sitting in 6th position, the Jets will be hoping to gain some percentage against a valiant but struggling Gormandale outfit. Heyfield will be hoping their recent form will carry over in their clash against Woodside, though the Wildcats enviable record and percentage suggests the Roos will need to be at their best to topple them. Yarram will look to consolidate their spot in the top 5 with a victory over a young Rosedale side. Sale City will attempt to stay in touch with the top 5 with a win against Glengarry, though the Magpies will not want to disappoint their home crowd. Churchill will enter their clash against Cowwarr as hot favourites.

OUR TWO CENTS:

Now all teams have played each other once, a clear divide has emerged between the top and bottom sides and there appear to be five sides with genuine chances to mark their mark at the pointy end of the season.
Lucknow will put their best foot forward in inflicting Wy Yung’s first defeate, though the Tigers took care of the Pies comfortably in Round 1.
The Battle of the Avon emerges as an equally important game, with Stratford in danger of dropping out of the top four should they fail to be in front at the final siren against Boisdale Briagolong. In Round 1, the Bombers came out on top of the Swans by the tune of 42 points.
There will be no love lost when Orbost Snowy Rovers host Lakes Entrance. These two sides really don’t like each other and the Swans will be hoping to ruin their opponents day and chances of securing a top 4 spot, but the home side will know how important a win will be here to make sure they are well placed in the pecking order.
Lindenow will be eyeing off their first win of the season when they play Paynesville, with the Seagulls only win of the season to date coming against the Cats in Round 1.

SENIOR FIXTURE (Seniors scheduled start 2:30pm)

Omeo Benambra (3rd) vs Buchan (4th) – Omeo Rec Reserve

Bruthen (5th) vs Lindenow South (6th) – Bruthen Rec Reserve

Swan Reach (1st) vs Swifts Creek (2nd) – Swan Reach Rec Reserve

ONLINE REVIEWS AVAILABLE (MAY REQUIRE SUBSCRIPTION):

Bairnsdale Advertiser: Available via subscription only

OUR TWO CENTS:

Omeo Benambra have opened up the spot for second with a win against Swifts Creek that surprised many. They will be looking to carry that form into their clash against Buchan who have won two on the trot and will be looking to keep their spot in the top 4.
Bruthen will be hoping to keep their finals hopes alive with a win against Lindenow South. However, if the Swampies can manage a victory, it will see them jump off the bottom of the ladder.
Match of the round goes to the 1st vs 2nd clash between Swan Reach and Swifts Creek. Despite the Demons unexpected loss last week, they will take comfort in the fact they are the only team to beat Swan Reach this year, which was back in Round 4 by 20 points. The Swans however still remain the team to beat this year.
