INTEREST  for women’s teams in country football leagues is on the rise, with extra teams and age groups introduced in country Victoria.

AFL Gippsland is likely to run their first women’s competition this year, with a development league of eight teams according to spokesman Damen Francis.

“We’ve had a fair bit of growth and I think we’re going to have a Gippsland open women’s league for the first time”
