MATCH PREVIEW

Buchan and Swan Reach will kick off the Omeo District Football Netball League finals series when the two sides clash in a do-or-die semi final at Swan Reach.
For a side that won one game in two years before the 2019 season, the Swans have turned their form around and are making their first finals appearance since 2016.
With a record of 5-10, Swan Reach has had its ups and downs, although coach, Daniel Macklin, believes his side is more than capable of knocking off the third placed Buchan, despite the Cavemen having won all three encounters this season by 42, 22 and most recently 20 points.
Despite not beating Buchan, Macklin says it’s a whole new ball game in finals.
“Last week was a fantastic game and it was quite highly skilled,” he said.
“We’ve been on the up since our two thrashings a few weeks ago and I had to rest some players through that period.
“Lose a couple of battles to win the war has been my philosophy for the boys and we are starting to play some good footy at the right time of year.
“We have taken it up to Bruthen and Omeo Benambra and during the season; against Buchan last weekend we were up by a goal early on.
“Last week they had a couple of players out and we had four out of our best side.
“This week will be the first week we’ve fielded our best side.
“Getting all our players right at the right time of the year is the most important thing.”
Coming into the Swan Reach side tomorrow will be Kobi Cook, Steven Harrison and Wayne Hayes.
After two tough seasons, Macklin says its special for the club to be back in the mix of finals.
“I told the club at the start of the year that I wouldn’t be happy with anything less than playing finals and we got there by the skin of out teeth in the end,” Macklin said.
“The club is a great place to be at and we’ve got a fairly young list. We have half a dozen players under the age of 21.
“We’ve been teaching them about discipline and being around a family friendly environment.
“With that the results will take care of themselves.”
Buchan will be a tough team to beat and Macklin says his side will give it all they’ve got.
“We pride ourselves on rocking up and having a crack,” he said.
“We need to work on fixing our turnovers and I thought that we dominated most of the play against them last weekend.
“It was the same against Bruthen earlier in the year.
“At the moment we are using that one extra possession, which is costing us. We get hurt on the turnover.
“We can exploit them with our outside run and we showed that last time, but as I said, our turnovers killed us.”
With 21 goals from nine matches, Peter Ritchie has been dangerous up forward for Swan Reach, while Jack Wheatfill and Sam Tindley-Roe have been consistent,
For Buchan, Tom Buckley-Kohne has booted 38 goals while Tyson Siddle has 32 to his name. If the Swans give these two a sniff around goal it could be a tough day.
Buchan will be favoured, simply because of its winning record against the Swans, however finals are a whole new ball game.
