MATCH PREVIEW

Yallourn-Yallourn North will be expected to keep their unbeaten streak going when they take on reigning premier Trafalgar this weekend.

The Bloods have been judged to have had an underwhelming season by some expert critics and despite some close performances recently, have been unable to get wins on the board. This was evident when the Bloods ran out of gas against Mirboo North last week, even though they were in control of the game in the first half

The Bombers juggernaut continues to chug along. Morwell East lead the ladder leaders last week by a point at 3/4 time, only to have YYN turn on the after burners in the final term. They kicked 7.7 to 1.1 in the final stanza to record a comfortable 47 point win.

The forward combo of Keenan Hughes and Dean MacDonald continue to cause Bombers’ oppostion defence headaches and Trafalgar’s big men down back might find themselves having a busy day if their midfielders are unable to get first use of the ball early.

MATCH PREVIEW

Hill End will play their first finals series in years and a solid win over Thorpdale will put them in great stead to help consolidate third spot on the ladder and secure a double chance final.

Currently sitting in the coverted third spot, the Hillmen have Morwell East behind them on percentage and will not be looking to give up that position. Their percentage is superior to the Hawks and a big victory will help sew up that spot leading into the final round next week.

Thorpdale will be playing for pride and neutral punters will be hoping they can put on a good show. The Blues remain the only winless side in the league so far, and given the form line of both sides one would suggest beating Hill End at home will be a tough ask for the visitors. There will be no doubt Ray Pickering’s men will give their all on the day, the question is will it be enough and can they sustain it for four quarters.

MATCH PREVIEW

In Gippsland FM’s broadcast game of the week, Newborough have a chance to upset the apple cart and inflict a loss on the finals bound Morwell East.

However, The Hawks will want to bounce back after tough loss to YYN last week, a game they were neck deep in until the Bombers ran away with it in the last term. Like Hill End, a fight for third spot on the ladder is up for grabs and a big win here will bode well in moving closer to tying up that position.

They will be wary of their opponents however, as Newborough have strung a few wins together recently and the Doggies will be hoping that form carries over into this game. It’s been a tough year for Newborough, with their lack of success in 2019 unfamiliar territory to some. But the Bulldogs will be wanting to finish off the season with a bang and a victory against Morwell East would be one to savour.

YINNAR v BOOLARRA

MATCH PREVIEW

While the result of this game will have no important bearing on where these two sides finish on the ladder, Yinnar will go into this game as hot favourites and will likely what they need to do in order to come away with the four points.

It’s been a shaky year for the Magpies and while they have found a bit of form recently, they will likely want to gain a bit more consistency heading towards a finals campaign. They will finish no lower or higher than fifth, but if they can find that killer instinct two weeks out from finals time, Yinnar may  prime themselves as a smokey other sides should keep an eye on.

For Boolarra, the season has been all about improvement from last year. While they have shown that, they have also proved that they still have a ways to go when matching with the top sides. There may be no greater opportunity than to take the scalp of a potentially vulnerable side like the Pies.
