MATCH PREVIEW

Lucknow’s recent run of form would suggest it should make easy work of Lakes Entrance at the Lakeside Oval.
The Magpies have recorded wins against Lindenow and Stratford in the past two weeks by 13 and 16 points respectively.
An eight-point loss to Boisdale Briagolong five weeks ago shows that the Magpies are more than capable of matching it with the best in the upcoming finals series.
However, Lucknow has to make finals first. The Magpies are equal on points with fourth placed Stratford and play Boisdale Briagolong and Wy Yung in two of their remaining four matches.

MATCH PREVIEW

Boisdale Briagolong has been the benchmark of the East Gippsland Football League all season, but last week was knocked back a notch after suffering its first loss of the season against Wy Yung.
The Bombers could quickly find themselves on the end of another loss if they don’t regain their form when they come up against the second placed Lindenow at the Cattery tomorrow. A loss would still see Boisdale Briagolong equal with the Cats on points, however it would likely remain on top of the ladder as its percentage is currently 32.34 greater than the Cats. If the Bombers win they are almost guaranteed a first place finish.
Boisdale Briagolong coach Josh Stubbe believes his side can quickly regain its momentum.
“We’ve had a good week on the training track and the boys have shown a really good response and approach to this weekend,” he said.
“Obviously the loss last week was disappointing but given the conditions both teams had to play in it wasn’t much of a structured game.
“We walked away with a loss but we are confident we can get back to our best football this weekend.”
The Bombers defeated Lindenow by five points back in round seven and Stubbe says his side will be looking to limit the Cats’ inside distributors.
“I think we structure very similalyr to Lindenow and they have really good inside midfielders like Luke Dyer who is an absolute ball winner,” he said.
“Going forward they have got some really good strong targets.
“We feel if we can limit their ball use going forward and put pressure on the kick it will give our defenders a chance to get a fist on it and stop their scorers like (Michael) Preston.
“If we can get on top in the midfield and win it going forward with some clear breakaways in our direction that give our forwards a clean look at goal, I think that’s where the game is going to be won.
“Our midfield will be looking to get on top early to assert some dominance.”
While Boisdale Briagolong will be without key forward, Daniel Stubbe, the Bombers still have the capability to stretch Lindenow’s defence.
“I have the utmost confidence that our forward line will stretch any defence in the competition based on experience and skill level,” Stubbe said.
“This weekend we will have a couple of guys come into the side for the guys that are unavailable. They will play their role and I’m confident our forward line can get the job done.”
Stubbe says the Bombers will learn from their unexpected loss to Wy Yung.
“Last weekend we probably weren’t quick enough to adapt to the conditions,” he said.
“It was one of those games where you take the metres when you can and not worry about too much the direction of the ball. You want it to travel from end-to-end.
“Early on we were still looking to play that dry weather football and move it with good structure and as the first quarter went by it was fairly obvious it wasn’t that type of day.
“It was our first taste of wet weather footy for the year and we will take away some points on that.”

MATCH PREVIEW

Wy Yung is building into a formidable outfit heading into September, winning five of its last six matches and should have no trouble securing the win against a winless Orbost-Snowy at Tigerland.
The Tigers have fielded a number of younger players such as Alex Crowe, Brodie Anderson, Jock Overend, Liam Rooney, Mitch Toms, Josh Street, Jobe Somerville, Luke Elia, Marcus Savage, Mitchell Dewar and Norm Betts this season with majority of them becoming regulars in the senior side and starting to have a consistent impact.
The Blues also have a young list with captain, Hamish Nettleton, and Braeden Ross being the standouts.
