Inaugural AFL Gippsland region manager has resigned from the position and finish his tenure in the final week of May. This comes shortly after the resignation of commission chairman Brian Quigley and is also coupled by Les Mathieson and Tracey Dear stepping down as commission members.

John Schelling is currently serving as acting commission chair and AFL Gippsland has already begun to find Switzer’s replacement.

“I will look back on my time at AFL Gippsland fondly but I believe the time is right for me to begin a new challenge and for someone with a fresh perspective to take the business through the next steps of its evolution,”

“I sincerely thank both AFL Gippsland and AFL Victoria for the fantastic opportunity to work in a field I am extremely passionate about and wish nothing but the very best for the future of AFL Gippsland and football in our region.”

“I am also extremely grateful to the AFL Gippsland staff and Commissioners for their constant work and support as well as the assistance of the leagues, clubs, associations and members that make up the Gippsland football community.”

Travis Switzer

“In his role as Region General Manager Travis has created an outstanding model for football in the Gippsland region which will ensure the long term viability of country sport in our communities.”

“Travis’s commitment to the task he was set cannot be questioned and his knowledge and expertise will be sorely missed as he is widely known and respected for putting himself out there in his quest to engage all stakeholders in the promotion of our region.”

“As a Commission we wish Travis our very best in his new role and thank him for his friendship and assistance to us all.”

“We will now concentrate on the task of creating a replacement strategy for the ongoing commitment of AFL Gippsland to the Gippsland region with the approach that challenge creates opportunity.”
